The children in Nursery have been learning all about how Christians celebrate Christmas.

They have learned the Nativity story, practised wrapping presents, made Christmas cards and sung Christmas songs. The children knew that people have Christmas parties too!

On Wednesday the children wore their party clothes and made special party hats. They sat together and had special party food.

The children then played party games including musical chairs and sleeping lions. Mrs Richardson was very cheeky at the end of sleeping lions. She made such a loud noise with a pan to wake the lions up!

The children and staff all hope that you have a restful holiday and get to spend some time with your favourite people. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

This week we performed our Christmas Story and songs for our grown ups.

We dressed up in our best Nativity costumes, took some photos and then waited quietly.

We were a little bit nervous when all of the grown ups came in; there were so many that some of them had to stand up!

We all joined in re-telling the Nativity Story. Our favourite part is when the innkeepers won’t let Mary and Joseph stay with them.

We used our best singing voices for the songs. We love singing Jingle Bells!

We were so glad that our grown ups came to watch our show. We had put lots of effort into learning it all. One Mummy even said she was so proud she was going to cry!

Well done Nursery!

This week we have really been getting ready for Christmas!

The children in Nursery have been helping to decorate the classroom with tinsel, lights and Christmas trees. They had to be very patient and wait their turn to put the baubles on the tree. The children had to think very carefully about where to place the baubles to make it look the best!

The children have been learning to retell the Nativity story using actions. They have also dressed up as characters from the Nativity story. The children really enjoyed being angels and shepherds!

This week we have read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Can You See? We loved looking at the pictures and we were really good at guessing which colour was going to be next!

We went outside into the Forest to see if we could find a brown bear…

We practised changing the words to the story whilst we were outside.

“Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what can you see..?”

“I can see children looking at me!”

“Children, Children, what can you see..?”

“We can see brown leaves looking at me!”

We loved being outside and noticing all the changes in the world around us!

We have read After the Storm by Nick Butterworth this week.

We loved looking at the pictures of the animals in the book. They all looked so sad!

We talked about what a storm is and decided that we could draw a stormy picture. The children laid on their stomachs to develop their core muscles for writing. Look at the big windy movements we made!

We really had to stretch to fill the paper!

After that, we decided to add the stormy clouds by using watercolour paints. We carefully had to mix the water onto the paint. We found that if we added more water, the colour was lighter!

We were so proud of our stormy pictures!

We have been learning the story of the Little Red Hen. We practised using actions to help us retell the story.

Once upon a time there was a little red hen who lived on a farm.

Early one morning she woke up and went outside.

There she found some corn.

“Who will help me plant the corn?” said the little red hen.

“Not I,” said the bull.

“Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the rat.

“I’ll do it myself,” said the little red hen.

“Who will help me grind the corn?” said the little red hen.

“Not I,” said the bull.

“Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the rat.

“I’ll do it myself,” said the little red hen.

“Who will help me bake the bread?” said the little red hen.

“Not I,” said the bull.

Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the rat.

“I’ll do it myself,” said the little red hen.

“Who will help me eat the bread?” said the little red hen.

“I will,” said the bull.

“I will,” said the cat.

“I will,” said the rat.

“Oh no you won’t. I’ll eat it myself,” said the little red hen – and so she did!

This week, the children have been making playdough.

They added the flour, salt, oil and cream of tartar before adding some water.

The children took it in turns to carefully mix it on the hob until it turned into a dough.

The only tricky part was choosing a colour!

This week, we took some clay outside to explore.

We loved feeling the slimy, cold clay.

We practised squashing and squeezing it, rolling it and pressing leaves into it. Our fingers are nice and strong now!

The children have had a wonderful week in 3YO nursery! They have been forging new friendships and exploring our classroom. Outside, the children helped Miss Bramham to set up a wormery by adding compost, worms and food! We learned that worms like to eat mouldy fruit – yuck!
