Today the children spent a long time building a train in our outdoor area, role playing and making tickets. We used this as a stimulus to talk about journeys and our local area. The children decided where they would like to visit on the train and drew maps.

Spring Gardening
Today we were intrigued by the Primrose flowers kindly donated by Mrs Bah and we quickly got busy preparing the garden and planters in our outdoor area. What a great job everyone!
WORMS
Following our heavy rainfall this week, the children became fascinated in all things worms. We began by digging for worms, hunting for them in our large mud pit. The children found many, which they decided to bring indoors to share with their friends. This led to some fabulous discussions about where worms live, what they eat and discussions around length, supporting the children to accurately describe length using the words longer and shorter, longest and shortest. Some of our youngest children simply enjoyed exploring how to move like worm, developing their vestibular senses.
Belated Pancake Day Celebrations
The children thoroughly enjoyed experiencing and sharing in our Lent and Pancake Day learning this week.
Warming Winter Soup on a Snowy Day
After enjoying the snowfall today we came inside to warm up. The children developed fine motor skills and an understanding of how to keep safe through preparing vegetables for a winter soup, we then used Mrs Garden’s soup maker to cook the soup. After more play in the snow this afternoon, we enjoyed some hygge time together, eating our soup was the perfect way to warm up.
Celebrating Lunar New Year
This week we have been thrilled to have the opportunity to experience and celebrate the Lunar New Year with many of our friends and families in school. The children have had the opportunity to learn about Chinese culture through a range of fun activities such as role play, craft and story. We learnt to count to 10 in Mandarin and say Happy New Year in both Mandarin and Cantonese.
Our Visit to the Story Bus
What a wonderful morning we had on the Story Bus today. We started off the session by singing our Hello Song, then listened to a story read by the staff on the bus. We were super at using our listening ears. We finished off the session by choosing our own book to look at. Thank you Mrs Whitely for helping us on the bus today.
The Big Garden Bird Watch
This week, we have taken part in the Big Garden Bird Watch. Today we identified and sorted birds from other animals, listened to bird sounds through story then went outside the create our own bird feeder and hunt for birds. The children were thrilled by this and were very excited when they spotted some swifts soaring through the sky in the wind. Can the children recall any of the birds names that they learnt today at home. Maybe you could get outside this weekend to see if you can spot any magpies, pigeons, robins, blackbirds or blue tits?
Forest School Ice Decorations
This week as the cold weather has loomed over us, the children have become fascinated by ice. With this mind we decided to create our own ice decorations in the messy kitchen. Look how how beautifully they turned out.
